Hello, I photographed this Asilidae in September, 2019 in Lyon (south-est of France). I don't have a size or an estimation of the size. I think it's an Asilinae and one of my collegue suggested that it could be Tolmerus atripes. What do you think of my Asilidae? Edited by Lagides on 17-12-2020 11:18 |

Do you have more pictures? This creature looks too robust to be Tolmerus atripes. That species has a mainly black mystax. It looks to me as if the left hind tibia has a reddish base but I'm not sure. Can you confirm that? I would say it is a Machimus female, if the base of the tibiae are reddish than this could be M. fimbriatus. A rather large Machimus species. If the legs are entirely black it becomes near to impossible to ID this one.

Unfortunately I don't have pictures from another angle of view... Here an enlargement of the left hind tibia, effectively it seems to have a red base! |

:-) Surely the right left tibia has a red base. Because of the mainly white mystax it could be M. cf fimbriatus but I can't be sure.

So we should call it "Machimus cf. cf. fimbriatus" ![]() But at least we have the genus! Thanks! |
