In this thread I'm putting photos of two specimens of the same tachinid species. They parasitized larvae of Thaumetopoea pityocampa. What species can they be? Thank you location: Barcelos, Portugal date: 2007/11/18 specimen 1 (photos 1 and 3) specimen 2 (photos 2 and 4) 1  2  3  4

Thank you Chris for telling me the characters of this species Jorge, I'm trying to find out as many species of tachinids in Gilmonde as I can (and knowing the host larvae). |

as I can see there are just a few cases with high specificity host-tachinid but I might be wrong.  |

Yes, I also have that idea. I searched a little bit on the internet and I found that Compsilura concinnata parasitizes three orders of insects (Lepidoptera, Hymenoptera and Coleoptera)  . |

Thaumetopoea is actually one of the best hosts to get monophagous Tachinids, however, you managed to get the most polyphagous one. Continue, and you'll find the others as well. Theo |
