Tachinids (host: Thaumetopoea pityocampa)
Rui Andrade
In this thread I'm putting photos of two specimens of the same tachinid species. They parasitized larvae of Thaumetopoea pityocampa. What species can they be?
Thank you

location: Barcelos, Portugal
date: 2007/11/18

Thank you Chris for telling me the characters of this speciesSmile

Jorge, I'm trying to find out as many species of tachinids in Gilmonde as I can (and knowing the host larvae).

as I can see there are just a few cases with high specificity host-tachinid but I might be wrong. Wink

Yes, I also have that idea.

I searched a little bit on the internet and I found that Compsilura concinnata parasitizes three orders of insects (Lepidoptera, Hymenoptera and Coleoptera)Shock.

Thaumetopoea is actually one of the best hosts to get monophagous Tachinids, however, you managed to get the most polyphagous one.
Continue, and you'll find the others as well.
