Hello I found this Cheilosia in the Prealps (Switzerland), end august 2007 in a small wood. I guess Ch. scutellata ... Regards Maja |

Yes, could be, but from the angle of this picture it might be another species, namely Cheilosia soror! Soror has (normally) a bright red thirdantennal segment, in scutellata it is brown to black. There are some more subtile differences, but as usual not visible on a picture. You don't have a frontal shot? Otherwise it is female Cheilosia sp., ( soror/ scutellata) Greetings, Greetings, Gerard Pennards |

No decent frontal view, I regret. But no bright red anntennae neither. Strange colour on the foto: brown to white instead of brown to black.??? Thank you Maja Edited by dipdip on 21-11-2007 10:36 |

Most likely soror (slightly more stout species), but as Gerard said... can't be sure on the basis of these pictures!
