Normally, I would expect to see halteres on a fly instead of a second pair of wings. But on this fly, it looks like a second set of wings. I don't think I got another view where halteres would be more apparent. If this is some other anatomical feature, what is it?![]() |

See wing figures on Manual of Nearctic Diptera page 30. There is a flap called the alula near the base of the wing which in this case is folded. |
