Today I heard a non-collecting person saying this book was interesting to read, so I thought it couldn't hurt to mention it here. I haven't read it myself, but I will try to find it. It seems interesting. It's written by a swedish author* and it's about a Syrphidae collector and his thoughts (I believe). I also understand that entomologist Malaise (which reflects on the title) plays a role in the book. This book was nominated for the swedish award Augustpriset in 2004.

* (I think he actually is a Syrphidae collector)

Does anyone know whether the whole book has been translated into English?
I got the impression from the link that it might just be those two chapters that are available, and my Swedish language abilities are not good!

Oops, I took for granted that it was translated when I saw that site, but you seem to be right because I can't find it in the book stores. Not much of a tip then. Sorry about that

I wrote to the lady at that review site and she said this book isn't translated. The reason they publishesd two chapters in english was to attract publisher to get it translated, but no luck so far.
I have now read the book and found it amusing. Much of it was about the life of Malaise. I hope they find a publisher ...

I've just read it - gobbled it in two sessions. Parts could be about me (not the heroic expeditions). There is an oddity on p. 27 where he says Criorhina ranunculi isn't found in England. Is it a mistake in the translation?

Hello
No, its not error in translation, same statement in the original text.
Cheers, Rasmus
