Thanks! Belshaw (1993) lists 4 species as British and states they are hard to distinguish awkward.

I wonder if it can be assumed to be a male S. inanis, as the vertex is much narrower than the eye?

Hold you horses . It is the male of Dinera grisescens, often confused with …. Solieria.
Plumose arista not visible but head profile quite different.
