Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Rhagionidae: Chrysopilus sp. ♂

Hello,

I photographed this fly near Pietracamela (TE), Italy, 1000m a.s.l. on June 10th 2021. I think it is a Rhagionidae, but is it possible to identify its genus or species from these photos?

The black Chrysopilus should be in theory be Ch. cristatus, but the typical cristatus has shorter pterostigma. Also that species tend to keep the tip of the abdomen bent down. So I am puzzled.

Well spoken. The wing pattern suggests erythrophthalma, which however has partly reddish femora, at least in central Europe.
Clypeus is different, any chance for a frontal view ?
