I hope that Tony or somebody else give me at least genus of such unusual painted-wings Ephidridae.
#2
I really don't know for sure - but my first reaction is that it's close to
Discomyza - I hope you have retained a specimen!
#3
Thank you Tony.
On one hand I hoped to get species name, on the other hand the fact that you don't know promises something interesting

4 spp collected, but females

I used to think that ephydrid flies were a little boring... but this photo shows me that I was wrong! I would like to see them in action!!!
#5
In action this one mostly sit still if you arre lucky enough to find it among vegetation

#6
I'd need to go Thailand...

#7
I've got message from Marina Krivosheina -
Discomyza maculipennis
#8
maculipennis means spotted wings, with
maculae
malucipennis.
#9
Pennis means wings???

#10
sure. curvipennis --- curved wings. Like Camarota curvipennis.
Albipennis - white/clear wings and so on.
#11
Amazing
In what language?
#12
Camarota comes from the Greek. Penna comes from Latin.
