Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Tachinidae: Ectophasia crassipennis?

Seen 5 Sep 2021 in SE part of the Netherlands in a garden on solidago spec. Estimated size approx. 8 mm. AI suggests Ectophasia crassipennis but it looks different than the average pictures of this species online, metasoma seems smaller and is dark except first and last segments. Eye position seems to indicate it is a female. Help to find an ID is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Annemiek, a black abdomen is not unusal for a male E. crassipennis and I think it is one.

Yes. Eyes are “vice versa”. in Phasia and Ectophasia, so check the elongated pulvilli !

Eric, Theo, thank you, I learned from your comments. Next time I will try to take pictures of the pulvilli as well but I guess it will not work without catching the fly.
