Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Syrphus torvus << Syrphidae larva

Hi everybody,

I found this larva on what I think was Lactusa virosa. I kept it and got an adult but the ID is still doubtful so perhaps someone familiar with larvae could help to clarify this.

So what would be your best guess for it?

Hi Cédric, I think it's a Syrphus ribesii, red colour form - the first image shows that the prp is about as long as broad and the spiracular openings extend over the sides of the prp.

Based on the imago, we hesitated between Syrphus torvus and perhaps some Parasyrphus.

I will have a look to the guide you mention, thank you!

Based on the imago obtained from this larva, this is Syrphus torvus.
