Hi
In first happy new year to all dipterist Wink
I have only one picture of this Dasysyrphus.
I post in the french forum here http://www.insect...575#214575
We have some difficulties to say friuliensis or venustus.
Perhaps it is an other. What can you say ?

Well, not friuliensis I think.
The spots would be more constricted in the middle. Although the antennae look a bit dark, I think that's the angle of the picture. So I think the antenna is more or less pale, although badly visible from this angle!
This is a male of venustus or hilaris, unfortunately the face is not visible.
Face with black longitudinal stripe: D. venustus.
Without: D, hilaris.

Hello,

I think, it is Dasysyrphus friuliensis. The shape of the markings of the tergites are typical with their u-form. I have some specimen in my collection and they look alike.

Well, Gisela,
Maybe you're right, but I'm still a bit weary.
The spots look too 'normal' (meaning not hooked enough and not narrow enough) to be friuliensis in my opinion.
They should look more like this picture I show here which comes from Van Veen's book!

I agree with Gerard... "If there's any doubt, it's n?t the one"... Cool Keeping this in mind: the spots on the picture are simply not restricted enough to be friuliensis.
