Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Lophosia fasciata [confirmed by Sundew]
#1
While I was on a break in Cults, Aberdeen recently I took 4 [crap] photos of a fly I spotted in the undergrowth while photographing another fly. Having lightened the pics a bit, I reckon it must be a
Lophosia fasciata which doesn't appear anywhere in Scotland on the NBN Atlas.

Anyone confirm the ID?

Hi Roger,
I saw the same fly yesterday and got better pics
. With those antennae, I think there is no alternative to
Lophosia fasciata, at least not in Tschorsnig & Herting 1994 (
https://www.zobod...1-0170.pdf). I post my pictures in a separate thread.
Best wishes, Sundew

You call those*
better
pics Sundew? Straight to the recycle bin if they were taken by me [out of focus /reflections etc]...
Mine were "record shots" of a fly which turned out to be "not seen in Scotland before"!
But
seriously, thanks for the confirmation Sundew, much appreciated and I promise not to post "crap" photos again, well... till next time!
Regards
Roger

Yes, that's unmistakably a Lophosia fasciata - nice record!!
[just wading through a ton of tachinidae emails that didn't get delivered until now!"

Thanks for re-confirmation Chris. Passed on to Matt Smith at the TRS with Map Ref, etc.
