Hi all
New here, but I've got a question about an unknown diptera.
Last summer I was in the high arctic on Spitsbergen and photographed the following diptera. The picture is taken on July 30th. These flies were extremely slow (probably due to the cold weather).
Can anything be said about the species or genus of the fly? It would be nice to give it a name :-)
Thanks in advance
Arjen

Scathophaga. This is a genus with quite a few high arctic species. I have identified two species from a small collections from Spitsbergen:
S. furcata and
S. litorea. I think your fly is something else.
