Hello,

I photographed this large fly in Bazzano (AQ), Italy, on October 16th 2022. I think it is a Tachinidae, but is it possible to say more about its genus or species just from this photo? Unfortunately it flew away before I could take more pictures.

Thank you in advance,
Emanuele

I'm no expert (far from it), but using the characters I can take from the picture (large, say 20mm, black body colour, hairy eyes, r4-5 open, grey scutellum, blackish femora and tibiae etc. it may well be a Nemoraea species. A picture of Nemoraea pellucida on the internet seems close. But don't rely on me!

Best, Ton
