Hello,

this Eristalis male from a hedge at the forestborder (northwest Germany) today was smaller than E. tenax or pertinax (and has dark fore tarsi), but bigger than E. interrupta or arbustorum, about 12-13 mm. I'm unsure, to which species it belongs.

I'd say Eristalis similis.
