Hi all,
today I watched (and photographed) two female specimen of
Myathropa florea with extended "Ovipositor", if that is the proper expression for the egg-laying apparatus in hoverflies.
The first one was actually releasing a drop from the extension and I am wondering if that was an egg or a pheromone bubble or excrement or whatever. Is it possible to identify that from the picture?.
Is currently the "egg-laying season", if that exists at all, for
Myathropa florea (because the extension was visible on the second fly, too), or is it just coincidence?
Greetings, Uli
