Hello,

I photographed this fly in the Sorgenti del Fiume Vera Nature Reserve (AQ), Italy, 600m a.s.l. on May 27th 2023. I think it is a Rhagionidae, but is it possible to identify its genus or species from these photos?

Thank you in advance,
Emanuele

It is a small Rhagio in the funebris-complex. We did an article on the (google Rhagio aterrimus). I have never studied Italian specimen.

PS Please be on the lookout for the large Rhagio with spotted wing: in yout case, it is Rh. cavennae (and not scolopaceus). Google Rhagio atlanticus for the key.

Thank you very much! I'll look for that species as soon as I get the chance.
