Thread subject: Diptera.info :: An urly Ulidiidae ??

I think it is a Ulidiidae.....maybe a Herina sp. ??
But isn't way to urly for a Ulidiidae ??
I made the foto today(Giethoorn, Holland) and the sice was about 5 mm

Geomyza tripunctata of the Opomyzidae. jan willem or someone else will correct me if I am wrong.

isn't it? It is indeed a female of
Geomyza tripunctata. I hardly ever find this species before May (but have seen several specimens collected earlier in the year by other dipterists). In The Netherlands this is one of the most common opomyzid species.

That's strange. It is one of the earliest flies here in Finland and I regularly find it as soon as the snow melts (in late March on the southern coast). I'd say it overwinters as an adult.
Perhaps you hardly ever collect flies before May?

I have to admit that I don't collect very often before May

, but also not very often later than May. I spend more time at identifying material collected by others. It is possible that the others don't collect very often before May, because I hardly ever find specimens collected before May in collections of other dipterists.
I would be very interested in your data on Finish Opomyzidae!
