Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Spilomyia manicata?
#1
Hello,
I found this specimen in the Botanical Garden of Berlin at 18-Jul-2023.
Based on foto comparisons I assume it is Spilomyia manicata, but I am not sure.
Could you please have a look?
Thank you and best regards
Frank

According to Bot&Meutter 2023, the third yellow band on the abdomen is uninterrupted in
manicatum and interrupted in
saltuum, and the former has long haisr on the top of the scutum whereas the latter has short hairs. Do you have a side view?

Incredibly nice shot, by the way! :-)

Thank you, Karsten!
Unfortunately, I have only this picture. The Syrphidae flew away after I took this picture.

based in the colour if front leg, this clearly is manicata.
Manicata can have narrowly interrupted yellow bands on tergites.

Congratulations with the find, Frank. We used to have the species in Zealand, Denmark, but the latest find is from 1846...
