Hello,
I found this little fly in the ivy in my garden in Lille (North, France). It was on January 29, 2024.
I think it is the Chloropidae family, genus
Elachiptera. The most likely species would be
E. bimaculata versus
E. austriaca.
I don't know if my photo will allow a precise identification but what is your opinion about the species of this little fly ?
Thanks iin advance,
Dominique

The difference should be in the number of lateral setae on the scutellem and the co9lour of the scutellum: one on a yellow margin in
bimaculata, three on a black margin in
austriaca. This then should be
bimaculata.

Thank you Paul for your answeer and for all these details.
It is interesting to learn that identification also takes into account the appearance of the scutellum.
I would like to photograph this species more completely. These last days I tried to find the fly in the garden but without success...
Sincerely,
Dominique
