Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Cheilosia?

Hello Forum,

again a fly from the alder marshland in Hagen (D) 175 m above sea level. This photo I took on May 1st 2007. The plant in the background is Cardamine amara.

May be it is Cheilosia spec? Is an ID possible?

By the long snout, you can easily ID this genus as Rhingia. They are related with Cheilosia, but easily recognized by the snout...I think it is Rhingia campestris

with this top view, how do you make the diference between R. campestris and R. rostrata ?

It should be Rhingia because of the snout, but the stripes on the thorax are not seen, and the scutellum looks so dark... I add a Rhingia campestris that is recognizable by the dark margins of the tergites - one might guess to see them in Josef's pic.
