Hi,
We had some tipulid threads recently, and Chen Young did his best to help. The key he supplied is great provided one can see all the important details. Which I can't... I suppose it's Tipula paludosa or T. oleracea, at least Tipula spec. (Don't say it's a new five-legged species!) Any confirmation possible?

Yes, you do have a male species in the Tipula (Tipula) group. The image you took of the tail-end of the fly shows a very large outer basal lobe , which is the character for this subgenus.

The shape of the outer clasper looks like oleracea (of the three British species in subgenus Tipula). The brown streak along the front edge of the wing is also a character of this subgenus.
