Melangyna quadrimaculata or barbifrons? On Salix.

Hard to tell from this angle. At least no quadrimaculata, because their males don't have spots on the tergites.

Hello Pia,
Well, from picture 1 it?s clearly visible that it has densely haired eyes, and picture 3 shows a black face.
Males of Melangyna barbifrons have virtually bare eyes and a black face with yellow patches, so this is clearly a male Melangyna quadrimaculata!
