Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Dipterists' desks
#1
Since Jorge's thread on dipterists' portraits was so popular, how about one on our desks? Here is mine. Don't worry if yours is not as neat and tidy, just show us it as it really is.

A very well worn chair I see. Obviously gets sat in a lot.
#3
or maybe a new larva fly species???
Great idea this thread.

I did like John suggested - this is my desk at home. (Remember I have two more desks at work - but they are just too untidy!
)

Here's mine as it is.
Things to note:
* A wall poster of the plates of the new Finnish hoverfly book. *Very* collectible, as far as I know, only six copies were made
* The mess - I guess we dipterists spend our time organising photographs or collections, keeping a clean desk takes a distant second place
* The topless woman. The page three girl photo - in itself rather plain - was captioned "Finally a summer without flies" so naturally I had to keep it.

The microscope is a XTL-101T from GX optical - see
http://www.gxopti...index.html. The list price is ?500 (631 euro) but that includes UK tax. (I got mine cheaper than that, though - because I have a nice smile?
)
The Flora tubs are full of mosquito breeding tubes - it's my current obsession.

Much more cheaper than I thought!
How can I buy a binocular loup so cheap?

My basement bug room, mostly taken up with insect cabinets; another whole wall with more cabinets out of view. But not all filled with Flies - a few Leps.

Is it always that tidy, or did you clear up for the photo?

LOOL Tony.

Great room Tony T!

And Kahis shows one of my favourites galaxies.
Andromeda galaxy.
Astronomy + Entomology (mostly DIPTERA) + WOMEN = TOTAL BLISS.
Lol at the small post at the left of Andromeda.
Nice title!

I've just noticed the blocks under your desk, Tony - they look like a great way to get it to the correct height for the microscope. I think I may copy that!

Yes, at the start of the month it's always that tidy; but after a few weeks one cannot actually see the desk top
I'm tall and my chair is one designed for a lab. bench; and the seat is high. Needed the blocks to save my neck and shoulders.

I used to stand my microscope on a pile of books to get a comfortable height, but now I have a nice adjustable boom.

Here are some photos. I have to work in a cellar, so no daylight for me
It's certainly not as impressive and tidy as Tony T's cellar.

OK; 1 week later

Very nice desk, Nigel. I'm curious about the printed paper on table.. in 2nd photo.
Tony, now, you must show the photo of "2 weeks later".
Is that binocular loup russian?...
