Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Tachinidae? / Geomyza?
#1
Hello flyforum,
I was wondering if this fly is a Tachinidae?, I found it near water in reet.
The second fly remembers me of Geomyza tripunctata.., but I think it must be a different fly.
It was bigger, got more hair and the wings are yellowish/braunish.

Hi Robert.
1. Tachinidae. Looks very much like Phorocera, but who knows (if not Theo or Chris) that Tachinidae?
2. I think Ulidiidae, may be Ceroxys.

Hi Robert,
Although it is a very pretty fly, it is not an opomyzid

. It looks more like an Ulidiidae to me, maybe
Milieria crassipennis (but this is not a sound identification; just by heart).

Hi Robert,
The last fly is indeed a Ulidiidae,
Melieria omissa.
M. crassipennis has dark bands on the posterior side of the segments.

the tachinid: I can't really see enough detail on the photo - but the colour of the face reminds me of an
Exorista sp.
It would be nice to get a few more angles and more detail on the face and body though.

I couldn't have said it better.
Moreover, you can see the appendix in the wing to vein M and the bare eyes.
Given the dark scutellum, the lack of discal setae and the fact that this picture was taken in NL, it is Exorista rustica.
Not so common in grassland (and yes, reed is a grass)

Here are some extra pictures of the Tachinid Exorista;
Details are' not much better, but the angle is a bit different.

Nice pictures, Robert, but I think each of the species had been served with better attention if you had put them in different threads, especially since they are from entirely different families.

Thank you Paul,
next time I put them in different threads!
