Oh, Nikita - he is gorgeous - a 'proper' robber fly, like I remember from my childhood in Australia - huge, colourful and fierce. Interesting colours on the substrate - lichen? on rock?

No rock, just a stone on the field ground, 1500 above sea level.

Nikita, A great shot of a splendid Stenopogon sp. I can't attempt a species ID now, as I'm away from any reference material. If a species name isn't added in a few days, will give it a try then (this handsome fly needs a proper identity!).
Eric.

Thank you Eric.
This handsome fly is collected, so if you need any additional details for ID, let me know.

Nikita,
I'm afraid that I am unable to take this handsome Stenopogon beyond genus level. There are about 65 species of Stenopogon described from Europe & N. Asia, and this one is not one of the 15 or so I have from this area. Fritz Geller-Grimm would be the best bet for an ID of this fly.

Genus level isn't bad for start.
Thank you Eric.
