I read that there are about 300 species in Sweden belonging to this family. I guess this diminishes the chance of a species or genus ID? From midwest Sweden in may 2006.
Edit: Changed subject (Empididae sp?)

Both are species of the genus
Empis, subgenus
Xanthempis. Based on the genitalia and the colour of the tarsi I am confident that the top one is
E. aemula. The bottom one, a female, has the characteristic thoracic pattern of
E. trigramma. So you see, not too bad after all.
