In general you are right about the longish legs in this family. They are called long-legged flies for a reason.
Still, the are several exceptions. The long legs are already shorter in a genus like
Medetera (see:
http://www.dipter..._id=80#285), but in genera like
Chrysotus and
Chrysotimus, the legs are really shortish. Still, if someone has a better alternative, I am open to it.
