I am pretty sure I have seen this species before, but it does not ring a bell now.

Well, its because of a white background I couldnt see any hairlets. What about flying activity of ribesii and vitripennis? In some literature it is given, that ribesii on wings later than other species, but in my collected specimens ribesii from the very spring, while vitripennis starts from summer, if I didnt confuse my old remarks?

I think the eyes are not hairy. They are just dusted. Becasue this fly was quite large, it may indeed be ribesi, a species that I do not see often. Somehow the abdomenal pattern seemed strange for a male ribesi.
