About 20mm, taken in March 2009, Ben Boyd National Park, on the coast of New South Wales, eastern Australia. Could be similar to Trev's recent post http://www.dipter...d_id=20478 – look at that ovipositor! I doubt there is enough detail in my photo to get an ID, but if anyone has any thoughts about this one I'd be grateful.

Hey Susan, mine was hugeGrin, oh you meant the fly, well about 20mm also and adopting the same flattened position as yours rather than the usual stilt leg position of most of the Asilidae around here. Are you still in Aus?

No, back in the UK now. Had a great time. Can highly recommend Ben Boyd NP, especially for mammals and birds. Insects and reptiles also good. A mixture of heath and wet eucalyptus forest – extremely interesting.

It seems to be a female of the genus Cerdistus, but a revision of the Australian genera is needed. Hundret undescribed species are known from this genus.
