I found this gorgeous syrphid in Barcelos, Portugal (08/05/2009). I had never seen this species before. What can be said?

It can be said that it's a male Merodon sp., possibly a Merodon aeneus!

Yes, it's in alcohol. I have been collecting syrphids, so let me catch some more and then I'll send them to you.

I hope to be able to visit Pt somewhere this year (late summer/autumn) and will try to organize a meeting.
