Sphaerophoria are quit typical slender species with yellow margins to the thorax.
Sphaerophoria scripta is the only European Sphaerophoria species with such a long abdomen, with a great part of the abdomen reaching out of the wings in the male (the upper one is the male).
In the male it is one of the more easy hoverfly species to recognize, unlike a lot of other Sphaerophoria species that mostly need close examination of the male genitalia to reach a certain determination...
