It's a Microdon sp. If Menno Reemer comes by he might be able to give you a species name. For that you should change the title to Microdon sp.

This is a male of
Microdon auroscutatus Curran. Very nice to see this picture, as I have hardly seen any pictures of living tropical Microdons before! Will you add it to the gallery?

Thanks Gerard and Menno
How do i add it to the gallery? I'll try to explore on that in a bit.
Edit: pls feel free to add it to the gallery.

Today we collected in Thailand Microdon which is looking the same.
sp. or auroscutatus?

If it looks
exactly the same, it will be M. auroscutatus, as it seems to be a fairly common species in Thailand. But I can't be sure, of course, without a picture or a specimen.
By the way, if you find any other Microdontinae, I'm very interested to see the specimens. I'm working on worldwide taxonomy & phylogeny of the group. Especially I'm very keen to receive recently collected specimens for DNA-work.

Thank you, Menno.
I'll be pleased to let you examen material, but there are two problems:
1. My deep ignorance in Syrphidae - for example, I don't know who else belongs to Microdontinae exept Microdon.
2. It seems to me that during 4 seasons in Thailand, it is first dpecimens of Microdon collected. Well, may be second, if I forget some. So, my test, not as
fairly common species
, I'd wish (nice fly indeed).
