Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Dark patterned syrphids from Ecuador (4 pics)

Hello to all!
I found this syrphids at the Plaza Grande in Quito, Ecuador. Ab. 8mm, 6.8.2009, about 2850m asl.
Does anyone know their family or more?

How do you identify this genus? To me, these flies look totally different from this one:

To me, it looks a bit like our genus
Syritta

The combination of the following characters leads you to
Dolichogyna: cell R1 open, vein R4+5 strongly sinuate, ocellar triangle very wide. Additional characters are the pollinose vittae on the mesonotum and the swollen hind femora.
Yes, both species look quite different from each other!

Thanks, Menno, for this information! I'm gonna try to apply this when dealing with my other Ecuadorian hoverflies, so that I can post them here perhaps already with a guess.
