They seem to be very active those days in Israel. any chance to ID?

It is some kind of Merodon. Wouldn't know which one... though it looks quite peculiar. Guess you didn't catch it?

No I don't usually collect diptera Smile

The species does look typical, but I am not familiar with Israeli Merodon... When I am back home I will give it another try, but no guarantees given!
In the meantime, let's hope some Merodon-specialists visits your thread! Smile
