Hi,

Not sure but it looks like a Pipiza sp., only got one pic of this on 12th May 2009. Near Lincoln UK.

It's a Pipiza. And maybe P. bimaculata. But that's as far as I go.

Thanks Andre, I have had P. bimaculata before but it had spots, I guess they can be without.Wink

That is interesting as I had a male and female last year which could have been the same species, judging by the spots as the male had some well developed spots. He was very, very small but the female wasn't much bigger.

I didn't have a lens capable of good close ups then but they are not too bad. I had thought they might be P. bimaculata but maybe I should post them too.Wink

Size is quite variable among Pipiza... So are the spots on the abdomen; it generally is no good character unfortunately.
