after a little digging, this just may be the species 
Allograpta hypoxantha Bezzi, 1923. (Synonyms: 
Syrphus calinus Curran, 1938; 
Syrphus hypoxantha Bezzi, 1923).
But I am not sure, because RSA is strange to me. Maybe Gerard can add some more options?

It's not Allograpta, those have clear yellow stripes at the sides of the thorax.
It's indeed a female Eupeodes or Syrphus, but the African fauna is poorly known. There's a good collection at the Natal Museum, so visit it when possible.
You could also start collecting syrphids and send them to me!
