Judging from my success rate so far, I really need to calibrate my key for Eristalis! I'm trying again with this one found in Brussels on July 4th. Eristalis interrupta? From what I see:
- tarsi 1 and 2 partially black
- pterostigma very small
- basitarsi 3 thicker than third article
- tarsi 3 unicolored
- narrow median band on the face
- femora 3 black
If this determination is wrong, would you be so kind as to point where I got the wrong characteristic? Thanks in advance,
Jean

I see band of hairs on eyes. So it is E. tenax!!
We can't see pterostigma on the picture. The median band on the face is broad.Eristalis is very difficult to ID only from picture without experience with pinned specimens.
