Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Scarabaeidae larva

I found this larva in my garden under the ground and I am curious what species it is and how I can grow

Doh I dont give any guarante, From my point of wiew, anything that looks like this and is size of this is May bug. It appears in 'large' quantities, any other scabidae is less frequent.
How to grow ? Splash it.
And any other that you find, that shoud do it.

Thanks for your help, the larva is now in a jar with soil mixed with vegetable scraps...

I don't think it's a
Dorcus. European Lucanidae usually live in rotting wood, not in the soil. Were you able to raise it?

I'm still sure it's Lucanidae larvae. Look at the anal segment of larvae, its very unique in european Scarabaeoidea. See here http://www.entomo.pl/forum/viewtopic.php?f=109&t=12940 European Lucanidae of course live in rotting wood but most often in wood underground, and frequently builds pupal chamber in soil. Now I think Alexandru larvae is more probably
Lucanus cervus (very common species in Suthern Europe).
