Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Stomoxys calcitrans?

Hello!

Is this fly with the protruding proboscis a Stomoxys calcitrans? Found yesterday at our house (Germany). Size like a normal house fly. Thanks in advance!

You would think so, but have a look at http://www.naturg...kfluer.htm - our old friend Prosena siberita is mistaken for it! (I think someone should visit Diptera.info to check their photos - the Chrysops is also misidentified! Smile)

Thanks for your confirmation! It's not so easy if you don't know, whether there are other flies in the so many. many diptera families with such a long proboscis ;-) (which could also be used for other things than sucking blood...). I'm only an amateur and beginner X-).
