This apparent pupa was among the spines of a dead black bristly Tiger Moth larva (Arctiinae).

Dipteran? Or is there not enough evidence to know?

Stephen, I think pupa has nothing to do on dead caterpillar. And for me it looks like seed.

Ha, you may be right! The caterpillar was by my house, a few days ago, I will see if it is still there and investigate more fully.

I even woiuld say it looks like a grass seed.
