It did remind me of a snipefly (downlookerfly), but longer legs.
I only spotted it this week, the other snipes are around since a month or so.

That's normal,
Chrysopilus cristatus is a typical June- species (even July)
The most common Rhagio, scolopaceus, has a definite abundance-peak in the middle of May. (Other species, like tringarius, can also be quite common and peak in July - August)
