Have been told that this is Stenopterus sp. Is this correct, and could someone please get any closer ?

Stenopterus sounds fine; this species, however, is lacking in the Coleoptera gallery http://www.koleop...x1024.html. If you click "families" - "Cerambycidae" - "Cerambycinae", you'll find some quite similar species, but all have reddish or orange legs. So you'll have to find a beetle expert of your region...
