In June, 2011 I saw two Syrphidae in the alpine tundra of Mount Washington, New Hampshire, USA. I think they are male (June 8) and female (June 22) of the same species.
They look like Syrphini but I can't tell genera apart.

Could these be pale
Parasyrphus tarsatus, a species known from Mount Washington? I don't have a shot of a male hind leg.
Other than that,
Syrphus sexmaculatus is similar but should have bare eyes (vs. long hairs below here).
S. attenuatus is similar but should normally have more yellow on the abdomen.
