Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Another green fly
#1
With my overly simple insect guide I arrived at Cynomyia, based mainly on the shape of the abdomen. Can anyone (dis)confirm my uneducated guess? Photograph taken in Belgium, near Stavelot (Ardennes). 19 August 2006.
Thanks again!

I think you are correct (at least, not if the photo changes as with the
Lucilia
).

Excellent male
Cynomya mortuorum - grey striped thorax, undusted green or blue abdomen and orange anterior frons are the unmistakable combination.

For some reasons, Cynomyia is green in the Ardennes.
In the Netherlands, it is (nearly) always blue.
Any clues why ?

Both color forms occur in Finland, but blue is dominating.
