The shape of the terminal segments makes me suspect it is an intersex, hence the absence of markings...

Intersex only says that it is a mix (?) between male and female, does´t it?
I saw some in the Forum before- are they common among fly?
This seems to be the same species.. maybe it heps for determination.

The last photo is very strange, it looks like it has a hole in the top of it's head.

It is a mouthpart. Don't you see the head is upside-down?

I've never seen a hover twist its head round like that... I wouldn't have known the hole was a mouthpart. That's a very interesting photo, thanks for sharing it with us!
