Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Polietes lardarius?
#1
I found quite a lot of these large flies today at Leerdam, Netherlands. I think they are Polietes lardarius, after comparing them with photos in the gallery and in forum posts. Am I correct?
Thanks in advance!

Yes, I agree.

Thanks for confirmation, Tony!

I think that it is not P. lardarius, but P. meridionalis - yellow anterior sripacle, parafascial and anterior part of gena - yellow/golden.

That would be nice, Nikitia, because it would be a new species to me

Are you certain?
What is the colour of anterior spiracle and parafacial in
lardarius then?

In my collection anterior spiracle and parafacial in lardarius are dirty-greyish brown, according literature it may be also grey.
And all P.meridionalis I collected in West Turkey in very late season (around 20 Dec).
I think yes, I'm certain.
And so, I think that your first photo with visible anterior spiracle color is good for Gallery.

O.k., thank you very much, Nikita.
I will submit that picture to the gallery.
