Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Plateumaris?

Hello,

The Netherlands (east) 1 dec. near a canal on the reeds. app. 5-7 mm. Is it Plateumaris sericea perhaps? Thank youSmile

Andr?, this one is very difficult. Studying my books and boxes, Donacia semicuprea is my answer. Would be nice to receive a 600x400 version for our gallery. Best regards Frank

I agree Donacia semicuprea is the most likely. The dimples in the middle of the thorax are a good indication. D. versicolorea has these too, but its hind legs are much longer and stouter.

1 December is a strange time of year for a Donacia to be out and about. They pass the winter as adults submerged at the roots of their larval foodplant, which for D. semicuprea is Glyceria maxima. Had the canal been recently dredged, which might have disturbed the roots?

Hi John,

Well I don't believe they dredged the small river (Dinkel, Overijssel, Holland), but since they are always very keen on keeping everything nice 'n tify for the touristsSad, it wouldn't surprise me if they mowed the borders a few weeks ago. Thanks for your input!
