Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Micropezidae

Hello Diptera Fans!

Can you say me please, what genus or species this fly (Micropezidae) is? I made this photo on a window frame here in Bavaria. In Central Europe there should be 12 different species of Micropezidae but I don't know this one:

This fly was about 3 mm long and I made this photo yesterday.

Genus Medetera, they hunt a lot on tree trunks and other vertical surfaces. They suck their prey empty by sheer force, since they have no piercing mouthparts.

It is a very large genus and many species can only reliably be identified by male genitalia (if at all). A real specialist might be able to pick out certain species, though.
