Hi,
Two days ago I saw this lovely Syrphid in Southern Brandenburg. The only match is
Chalcosyrphus valgus, though the gallery animals show a bit more reddish legs. Can this species be confirmed, and how is the correct name in use? I read that
C. valgus is a synonym of
C. femoratus; however, the gallery animals are named
C. valgus.

Yep, it does, because it looks like a male Chalcosyrphus femoratus, which is not the same as Chalcosyrphus valgus. An older name for this species used to be Chalcosyrphus curvipes.... Great find!!
